WITH YOUR HELP…

In 2018 FOC launched YES WE CAN! and the Mama Jorie Butler Kent Scholarship Fund, to empower Maasai girls and boys to embrace their future as equals, confront issues of gender inequality and violence, to stay in school, and to pursue a quality education.

HELP MAASAI GIRLS STAY IN SCHOOL ALL MONTH

As we have so often discovered in the remote regions of the Masai Mara, there are many challenges to attaining an education that we, from a position of relative privilege, might never imagine facing. It is estimated that in Kenya the families of more than 900,000 schoolgirls are unable to afford commercial sanitary products, leading to 3.6 million missed school days per month. Without these essentials, many Maasai girls are regularly excluded from the education we have made possible with your help.

Empowering girls and women to lead full lives has a broad impact. Even one year of secondary school can boost girls’ wages 15 to 25%. Women and girls who earn income typically reinvest 90% into their families, meaning the entire family benefits. When a girl stays in school and completes her education the impact resonates throughout the community.

GIVE THE GIFTS OF DIGNITY & EDUCATION

FOC hopes to provide “Dignity Kits” to every girl attending Moi Naikarra Secondary School, where our YES WE CAN! program is based, so that they can attend school without interruption. Each kit contains reusable sanitary products along with information about reproductive health. If we are able to raise these funds now, FOC will begin providing Dignity Kits as soon as the new school year begins in January of 2019.

There are many barriers to a girl seeking education which are difficult to overcome. This need not be one of them.

OUR $30,000 GOAL

When we reach our goal, we can also move forward in creating a sustainable business that provides meaningful employment for local Maasai women to produce these affordable and essential Dignity Kits for their own community. Please consider FOC and the aspirations of Maasai youth during your year-end charitable giving!
