ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

Public Education
FOC has established four environmental learning centers in the Mara area, each reasonably equipped and strategically placed to act as a base for FOC field workers and as an environmental education and training facility. The centers provide practical demonstrations for local people in many of FOC’s activities and programs.

Youth Education
Of continuing importance to FOC is our commitment to environmental education for the stewards of tomorrow. This we achieve through support to Conservation Clubs established with assistance from FOC in 50 Mara area schools and in Tanzania. Club projects include the creation of nature trails and environmental museums, agro-forestry projects, collection of indigenous seed, tree planting and soil erosion control, rabbit keeping and bird watching.

Tourism Education, Management and Advocacy
Tourism is Kenya’s principal source of foreign exchange and the Masai Mara National Reserve is the jewel in the crown of Kenya’s tourism industry. FOC has worked to safeguard its wildlife and environment through the production and distribution of informative and educational materials for tour operators and visitors. FOC materials provide information about the Maasai people and the wildlife and habitat they are here to observe, as well as simple guidelines for responsible tourism.
